James plays Rick.
James Hyland is an award-winning actor/writer, as well as a producer, director and film-editor. He is also the Artistic Director and Founder of Brother Wolf, an award-winning production company.
James was educated at the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and Rose Bruford College where he took on the role of Pete in THE NORTH POLE, sharing the Guardian International Student Drama Award at the Edinburgh Festival and the award for Best Ensemble Acting at the National Student Drama Festival. James went on to perform with theatre groups such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, winning eight more awards for his performances on stage and screen.
Under the mantle of his production company, Brother Wolf, James has written, produced and acted in several projects that have gained universal acclaim including DEAD MEAT (“Dario Fo meets Mike Leigh” – Time Out), PLAY THE GAME (“the bastard offspring of Reservoir Dogs and Carry On” – Time Out) and his ground-breaking solo dramas A CHRISTMAS CAROL – AS TOLD BY JACOB MARLEY (DECEASED) (“riveting acting… stunning voice work… unforgettable” – The Stage), FAGIN’S LAST HOUR (“truly astonishing… unforgettable theatre at its best” – The Courier), and STRANGE CASE OF DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE (“Hyland is a genius… No one ‘ordinary’ could do what he did” – Everything Theatre). In 2012, James was honoured with the award for Best Performer in Theatre (Fringe Report Awards 2012) and a nomination for The London Theatre Award (London Awards for Art and Performance 2012) for A CHRISTMAS CAROL – AS TOLD BY JACOB MARLEY (DECEASED). The success of his Dickensian solo shows culminated with recognition from Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace. Most recently, James was awarded Best Male Act (Solo Festival 2013) following the World Premiere of STRANGE CASE OF DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE at Harrogate Theatre.
James can also be seen in Tinie Tempah’s music video DISAPPOINT YOU, in which he serves as writer of the dialogue as well as lead actor, for which he shared the award for Best Music Video at The London Independent Film Festival 2012 as well as Best Urban Video at the UK Music Video Awards 2011 (“one of the best short films, not to mention best music videos, ever made” – UK Hip Hop & Grime).
James has appeared in several television dramas such as CASUALTY and FAMILY AFFAIRS. Previous film work includes SUPERSONIC (Critic’s Choice in The Daily Telegraph/Ford Mondeo film competition, 2008), and THE WOEFUL TALE OF LONG JOHN (Heavyweight Winner in the Vårrullen Film Festival, 2006). He will also be appearing in the forthcoming feature film WE ARE MONSTER.
